I’ll finally stop being a burden…

April 2, 2018March 26, 2018by runtalkrun2 Comments on I’ll finally stop being a burden…

"I still have bad days. But I externalise it now and say how I'm feeling. Sometimes they may mean I need to take a break from groups of people and sometimes I need to be around people, sometimes I just want to be quiet and be left out of conversations."

My Name is Steve. Part 1.

My name is Steve. My story and journey is probably not unlike many others. Running has, in a large part, defined who I am over the past ten years. But there was a large part of who I was before running. Before I get into the running part of my story I’d like to shed [...]

at what point do we stop calling it “acknowledging” and start calling it “dwelling” 💭 at what point do we stop calling it “self care” and start calling it “isolation” 💭 at what point do we decide that we are too ill to be making these decisions rationally? Thinking deep thoughts tonight guys. Don’t mind me. - - - - #randommusings #tuesdaythoughts #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthlondon #selflove #selfcare #isolation #acknowledgment #dwelling #ruminating #skyline #cityskyline
Things that are often considered as acts of self-love, but really aren't: 1. Eating or drinking something you know is going to make you feel like crap, or will only serve to create more stress, guilt, or shame when you're done consuming it. That is not self love. 2. Buying something you can't afford, creating more stress, guilt, or shame when the bill comes due. That is not self love. 3. Blowing off responsibilities in the name of taking time for yourself to the degree that you create more stress, guilt or negative consequences when it's time to get back. That is not self love. 4. Being tough on yourself, thinking you can motivate yourself with negative self-talk or self-shame. It goes without saying, that is not self love. 5. Denying yourself pleasure or happiness until you've "earned it" or "deserve it." That is not self love. 6. Pretending your are in love with yourself when in fact, you're struggling. That is not love. Instead, you can: 1. Prepare food you know makes you healthier and tastes delicious. 2. Buy, borrow, make or do something that brings you joy, staying within your budget. 3. Do what needs to be done... then, relax, knowing you've taken care of the most important things and letting the rest go. 4. Let yourself be happy. Accept the compliment, feel the joy, be proud of the progress, show up in the world. 5. Be vulnerable, admit when you're struggling and ask for support, a sympathetic ear or trusted advice. That is self love. #selflove #selfcare #selfcareeveryday #monday #whatisselfcare #whatisselflove #loveyourself #nutrition #healthyliving #mentalhealthlondon #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthwarrior #depressionrecovery #anxietyrecovery
I don’t always enjoy running. Sometimes it bloody sucks, actually. I would say that for every run that I have where I get in “the flow”, there is another run that just feels uncomfortable AF. I’m talking chafing between the thighs, lungs burning, glutes burning, ankles niggling… kinda wishing it was over. Learning how to sit with the discomfort in running, helps me practise sitting with discomfort with my mental health, too. Discomfort in life cannot be avoided. In fact, the avoidance of discomfort brings about a different kind of discomfort in itself. The discomfort of not having tried. Running teaches me that discomfort is all part of being human, and that discomfort makes us stronger. It makes us more resilient. So yeah. I don’t always enjoy running. But I do enjoy the skills it has taught me. - - - - - - #running #lovetorun #loverunning #runningishard #cardioishardio #runhard #sprints #longdistance #longdistancerunning #runningmentality #tenacity #resilience #characterbuilding #runninggirl #runningmotivation #iloverunning #londonrunning #londonrunner #richmondpark #richmondrun #nikewomen #toughgirl #determined #determination #ambitious #ambition
Well well well that mara got me feeling ALL the feels today 🤯 so utterly blown away by the perseverance and sheer battle between mind and body that so many runners overcame today. #LondonMarathon you were EPIC, and even you #cheerleaders deserve a round of applause too 👏🏼👏🏼🏃🏼‍♀️☀️ It’s onwards and upwards for me this week. A strange encounter with someone I’d not spoken to for DONKEYS really put my development and progress into perspective 🤙🏼...and the resulting feeling is that im even MORE ready to go full throttle on my goals and dreams and give myself all the shit I know I deserve in #lyf . I’m all about believing in the wonders of the world and “messages” being delivered when we need them most and I really feel like I need to press that reset button a lil and redefine what the fuck it is I am actually doing right here right now. 👌🏼👊🏼 So you do it too, look at this week as a blank canvas to paint it HOWEVER YOU WANT 🎨 - - - — #sundaynight #sundaynightvibes #sundaynightthoughts #sundaythoughts #mondaymotivation #mondaymorning #mondaymood #cleanslate #freshstart #letsdothis #imready #ambition #passion #successquotes #lifequotes #mondayfeels #mondayquotes #mondayiminlove #lovemondays #newweek #startover #startasyoumeantogoon

Sometimes people come into your life for a moment, a day, or a lifetime. My Running Journal: Week 3

I’ve been trying out some “new stuff” this week. A new running club, a new route to run mid-week, and also a 10k race that I’d not run before. Happy reading.

How to Improve Your Relationship with Social Media

Roughly 18 months ago, I was in that “fitness insta” game. You know. The daily selfie to prove you’ve worked out. Making sure you’re up-to-date with the latest hashtags, the latest brands, the latest events. I called it “Dream Work Win” – punchy, motivating, inspiring – or so I thought. Yet, ironically, I was exhausted […]
